Management Team
Quantec maintains a dedicated customer-focused management team with a diverse set of skills to deliver the best possible geophysical solutions for our clients. Our Team has a strong background in Geoscience, Service and Business management.
Oliver Kuhn: President & CEO
Oliver is a senior geophysicist with many years of management experience in the geophysical service sector. After gaining his B.Sc. (Geophysics) from UWO in 1984, he moved to Calgary to join Geo-X Systems Ltd. as a seismic processor. Over the years he transitioned from technical roles into management, and held various positions, including Processing Supervisor at Geco-Prakla (a Schlumberger company), General Manager at Geo-X, VP Processing at Divestco Inc. and Vice President at Apoterra Seismic Processing Ltd. He has worked in Calgary, Singapore, Wellington, Perth, and now Toronto. He is a member of the SEG, CSEG, and APEGA, and was president of the CSEG in 2006.
Mark Morrison: Director of Operations
Mark is a geophysicist with extensive experience running and managing geophysical survey operations throughout Chile, Canada, the USA and the rest of the world. He holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geophysics from the University of Western Ontario and prior to joining Quantec worked in various technical and leadership roles at Fugro Airborne Surveys, Superior Diamonds (now Northern Superior Resources), and Peregrine Diamonds. At Quantec he performed various field operation roles, before taking on the position of General Manager of both Quantec’s Chilean and Peruvian operations in 2011.
Nigel Unger: VP South American Operations
Nigel has been involved with Quantec since 1999 running and managing the execution of geophysical surveys in South America. He has been managing the Quantec office in Argentina since 2007. He completed a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Engineering Geology from the University of Natal, South Africa. He has accumulated more than 20 years of geological and geophysical experience in various geographical locations (Angola, South Africa, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Argentina), and now uses the accumulated skills and ability to successfully manage all aspects of Quantec’s Argentina office.
Robert Gordon: Manager Sales & Marketing
Rob spearheads Quantec’s business development and marketing efforts. He started his career with Anaconda Canada and subsequently held progressive roles with Echo Bay Mines, Covello, Bryan and Associates, and Terraquest as a Geophysicist. Rob then spent 7 years with Dighem, a helicopter EM survey company, where he was involved in all aspects of helicopter EM, Magnetics and Radiometric surveys. Following an earlier stint at Quantec (1998 to 2008), Rob became General Manager then President of Caracle Creek, an innovative global Geological consulting firm, where his efforts were focused on providing integrated exploration programs for clients including geological mapping, resource modelling, drill programs, geophysics and earth modelling. Rob graduated with a B.Sc. Eng. in Geological Engineering (Geophysics) from Queens and an MBA from the Ivey Business School at UWO. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario and holds an Honorary Fellow from Geoscientists Canada for his extensive volunteer work with the APGO.
Roger Sharpe: Vice President, Technical
Roger has been leading teams in the geophysical service sector for over 30 years. Having held positions as General Manager, Senior Interpreter and Manager of R&D, Roger provides clients with a broad range of technical experience for advanced interpretation, survey design and equipment development. Prior to joining Quantec, Roger was Chief Geophysicist at Battle Mountain Gold Company, and at Multi-Phase Technologies he was Senior Geophysicist in hardware and software development for 3D monitoring. Roger is responsible for quality assurance and survey integrity. Roger heads the R&D team which is responsible for maintenance and development of Quantec’s proprietary software and advanced systems including; ORION 3D, TITAN 24 and SPARTAN MT. Roger’s alma mater is Queen’s University and he is a member of APGO, SEG and KEGS.
Kevin Blackshaw: Director, Business Development
Kevin has been working with Quantec since the late 1980’s. He was instrumental in helping develope field operations procedures for the TITAN technologies in the early 2000’s and was in charge of global field operations of TITAN and Spartan deployments. With his extensive on the ground expertise in operations and logistics, Kevin is responsible for survey planning and logistical considerations and costing. Kevin helps ensure projects are run to the highest standards while maintaining project timelines and adhering to logistical and customer budgets. He has a Diploma in Geological Engineering from the Cambrian College of Applied Arts and Technology in Sudbury, Ontario.
Mehran Gharibi – Manager of Interpretation and Processing
Mehran leads our group of six senior geophysicists. He is experienced in mineral and geothermal exploration using magnetotelluric, electrical resistivity and IP methods. Current research interests include applying these to SAGD, heavy oil, fracking, and 4D monitoring; developing tools and protocols for joint 2D inversion of MT, DC, and IP TITAN 24 datasets; exploring inner properties of omni-directional 3D DCIP ORION 3D datasets.
