{"id":2591,"date":"2012-10-01T11:59:36","date_gmt":"2012-10-01T11:59:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.quantecgeoscience.com\/?p=2591"},"modified":"2017-05-08T21:20:29","modified_gmt":"2017-05-08T21:20:29","slug":"how-to-extend-mining-exploration-without-mineral-surface-expression","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/quantecgeo.com\/es\/how-to-extend-mining-exploration-without-mineral-surface-expression\/","title":{"rendered":"New Nadina some comments on ground based geophysical surveys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you\u2019re trying to extend the life of a mining project, and all surface expression has already been mined: mining companies <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">need a survey that focuses drill targets<\/span> with less risk than an airborne survey.<!--more--> Peace of mind <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quantecgeoscience.com\/about-us\/client-success-stories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">for mineral explor<\/span><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.quantecgeoscience.com\/about-us\/client-success-stories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">tion companies like<\/span><\/a> New Nadina comes from seeing absolute data (collected at depths greater than 500 meters).<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Here\u2019s why you can use airborne surveys to identify features of interest, but not to specify drill targets:<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">New Nadina\u2019s Silver Queen Property<\/span>, Geotech\u2019s ZTEM went over the property. But the airborne Tipper MT survey, while quick and affordable, has limitations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn airborne system such as ZTEM uses MT Tipper to map channeled currents that may be related to strong conductors and fault-structures so that exploration can be loosely guided over large regions; but it is prudent to collect more before incurring the expense of unnecessary drilling. Thus, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Titan 24 MT resistivity<\/span> provides more <em>focus, <\/em>better <em>accuracy<\/em>, and <em>deeper<\/em> investigation for\u00a0more robust drill targets,\u201d says Roger Sharpe, V.P. of Research and Development at Quantec. (And <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">3 ways to decrease risk in mineral exploration<\/span>).<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>3 Reasons Why Airborne Surveys Are Unable To Pinpoint Deep Drill Targets:<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Ratio Data vs. Absolute Data: <\/strong>Airborne tipper MT surveys do not relay absolute resistivity; they are limited to measuring a ratio of components at flight speed. Shot from a moving platform, you have one frame (a moving coil) to collect data; and because you are constantly moving, you cannot check (and double check) the results for accuracy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A ground geophysical survey like <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Titan 24 <\/span>(or<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.quantecgeoscience.com\/technology\/orion-3d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Orion 3D<\/a> <\/span>using 3D technology) gives an absolute resistivity parameter (formulated from the collection of more data) to pinpoint drill targets. The multiple, independent receivers also have sensitivity control, which means Titan 24\u2019s crew can wait for the best noise-free report from the ground-based geophysical system giving rise to more precise interpretations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Limited Range of Frequencies vs. Full Range of Frequencies: <\/strong>Airborne surveys are limited to a frequency range of 30Hz to 700Hz, which is less than two complete decades. The narrow frequency range combined with the constant movement means you simply don\u2019t have enough time to record a lower frequency event (preventing sight at deeper depths.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Any ground survey is able to increase the range of frequencies. But Titan 24 measures over 6 decades: a broad band between .01 Hz and 12 kHz. The upper frequency limitation means airborne tipper MT surveys like ZTEM cannot provide the shallow resolution available with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Titan 24<\/span>; and the lower frequency limitation prevents ZTEM from penetrating to the same depths as Titan 24\u2019s ground MT Data.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>One Set of Data vs. an Integrated Set of Data: <\/strong>Since airborne surveys cannot measure the electric field (or \u2018galvanic components\u2019) they can only collect magnetic (or \u2018inductive\u2019) measurements. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Titan 24 integrates both sets of data<\/span> (electric and magnetic) to provide a more complete interpretation. By collecting two sets of data on the ground (which you can\u2019t get in the air), exploration teams learn more about the mineral components of the subsurface.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ground vs. airborne survey debate is old and well-documented for strengths and weaknesses. But now, in the case of New Nadina\u2019s porphyry copper discovery led by Mira Geoscience\u2019s Peter Kowalczyk, mining<!--more-->exploration teams are told, \u201cThe two work very well together to find big, deep porphyry deposits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both ZTEM (airborne survey) and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Titan 24<\/span> (ground geophysical survey) were used on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">New Nadina\u2019s Silver Queen property<\/span> in attempt to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">extend the life of the mining site<\/span> . The surveys intended to pinpoint a deep porphyry copper target system for drilling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsing both ZTEM and Titan 24 in combination is a very good exploration strategy,\u201d says Kowalczyk. An exploration team\u2019s goal is to get the most well defined target before drilling. At Silver Queen, after ZTEM went over the property, it was apparent that additional work was required on the ground.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Titan 24 IP (Induced Polarisation) data allowed the New Nadina exploration team to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">avoid drilling deep, expensive holes<\/span>\u00a0 by more clearly defining the anomaly target.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.quantecgeoscience.com\/mineral-exploration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Quantec Shows You Where To Mine Next<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTitan 24\u2019s ground geophysics adds a great deal of data and gives much greater confidence to site drillholes.
